NEW STARTER BLOG: Get To Know Gary Irving

  1. Can you give us a bit of a background of your previous role/qualifications etc?

From leaving School I took an Engineering Apprenticeship within the automotive industry. I stayed within this industry taking many roles from working on production lines and working my way up the Engineering ladder to become a qualified Manufacturing and Quality Engineer. In 2017 I was offered a role in a totally different industry and moved career working with very famous disused prison creating new entertainment content and experiences. After COVID hit and a life change I decided to go back into engineering and now working with Allett.

  1. Can you give us a bit of background on your life? Any hobbies etc/ interesting facts?

Originally from the West Midlands I have moved to different locations around the Midlands and Staffordshire. I have been happily married for 4 years and now have a daughter that is 18 months old. I have a Sprocker Spaniel who is bonkers! In my spare time I take on a lot of hobbies. I enjoy camping and building remote controlled cars, helicopters, and drones. I am a self-confessed nerd and since I was small had always loved theme parks, rides and roller coasters and have travelled the world to go on some of the best rides and experiences. My largest hobby is creating scary things. Masks, costumes, animatronics, full experiences and acting for horror mazes and films.

  1. What is the proudest moment of your working career so far?

I have 2 moments that really stand out to me. The first is my completion of green belt six sigma which really helps in the day to day work I do for Allett. The 2nd is writing, producing, building and running a horror style scream park.

  1. What are you most excited about working for Allett?

Allett is a very prestigious world leading company and working with Allett is a great challenge to bring some of my expertise to the company. I’m excited to continue my career and bring experience to a new type of product I have not worked with before, clearing the path for a better performing Mower.

  1. What does your new job role involve on a day-to-day basis?

Each day brings new challenges and better and brighter things to help Allett move forward. My job is to help Allett achieve its full potential for its manufacturing quality, its quality process and create a safe and quality environment to build some amazing machines.

Now for the fun questions!

  1. Favourite film?

Love to sit with my daughter and watch Alice in wonderland but I do love the saw movies

7. Favourite holiday destination?

Blackpool, Skegness or Great Yarmouth

8. Favourite food if you had to choose one meal?

Cheese burger, Chips and Beans from Coral Island in Blackpool. Nothing like a burger that’s been soaked in onions for hours and beans that have been sitting under a heat lamp for a while so they are thick and tasty.

9.What famous people would you have around your dinner table and why?

Wouldn’t really have any. Not a dinner table person

But I would happily be in an escape room with Rowan Atkinson, Lee Evens, Brian Blessed and Tobin bell just because I think they would all be a lot of fun.

10. Any hidden talents/ claim to fames?

I don’t hide my talents. I have a talent for scaring the hell out of people dressed as scary characters.

I have 2 claims to fame, 1st is when I was 12, I was the 'Midlands Young Ballroom Champion' and competed for National in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. My Nan always loves to remind me of it

2nd is I was in Shaun of the dead as one of the zombies. You can see me as Simon Pegg walks out of his home down the street towards the shop and then again when the zombies are raiding the Winchester.

People may have also seen me (or been chased by me) in many different horror mazes around the UK.
