We're Moving!
Allett are delighted to finally announce that we are moving to our brand new premises in the next few weeks! It’s been a bitter-sweet month at Allett, as we make the final preparations for moving day. We’ve spent almost 18 years at our Hangar 5 HQ and have shared the premises with our sister company, SSC Laser, since their inception in 2000.
Turfmech was established in 1990 by our CEO Austin, who ran the business from his Mum and Dad’s Farmhouse until 1994. Since then we’ve only had one other premises on New Road Industrial Estate in Hixon. In 2007, Turfmech bought Allett Mowers.
Over the past 18 years, both Allett and SSC have grown significantly. We initially purchased the new factory to consolidate storage which was rented and separate, to accommodate the growth and for future growth. However, with both Allett Mowers and SSC Laser growing at a rapid pace, and with predictions for even further expansion in 2018, the need for more space has become even more apparent. The additional office space will also give us a large showroom and better training facilities, which will ultimately help Allett operate more efficiently.
Our new state-of-the-art factory and offices are prominently situated fronting the main circulation roadway serving the Airfield Estate, which is positioned just off the north side of New Road in Hixon. Hixon is a large village located seven miles North East of Stafford, with multiple motorway links, just off Junction 14 of the M6. The A51 trunk road links Hixon with Rugeley six miles to the South East, and with Stone about seven miles to the North West, we couldn’t be easier to get to. The site is also conveniently located just 250 metres from our existing factory, meaning no changes are made for staffing.
The newly named, Regal House in Hixon Airfield Industrial Estate, is built on a decommissioned World War II Air Base, and currently comprises 31 industrial units built in the mid 1970s. In 1942, Hixon became a temporary home to 3,000 airmen from across the world. Named 30 OTU on account of its 30 Wellington Bombers, Hixon's pilots played a major part in the Second World War.
The move has been ongoing since the first week in December, and has been a gradual process. The manufacturing department is already moved and settled into Regal House, however the other departments - including parts, design, sales, and admin - will move in February. We’re hoping to be fully settled in by 18th February 2018.
Although we’re sad to say goodbye to our home of almost two decades, moving to a brand new premises is super exciting and we can’t wait to see what else 2018 has in store for Allett.
